Bedside Table Beauty: Nighttime Staples

I don't know about you but none of my skincare or beauty products ever stay in one place. My bathroom is full of cleaners, body butters, gels and perfumes, heck, even my kitchen has about three hand creams including Soap and Glory's Hand Food (couldn't live without it)! The point is, my bedside table is also home to some skin treats that are essentials for me most nights. They tend to be products that I forget to use unless they're right in front of me, even though I wouldn't last a day without them. Is the feeling mutual?
Overnight treatments are a blessing to the average skincare and beauty loving person, so when I first came across the E45 Repair and Protect Overnight Hand Cream I had a field day. You may remember it from my recent favourites post, and since then it's stayed an absolute staple. I always forget that hand creams are a key part of body care and skincare, but they do wonders honestly! E45's is the ultimate over night fix for dehydrated, overworked, scarred and tired hands that need a perk up. Before using this product, I thought my hands had no hope.

Who could blame me for consistently repurchasing Nuxe's Reve de Miel Lip Balm; a beauty industry classic that needs no introduction. I think everyone should own this particular product, it'll change your lips drastically; say hello to smooth, perky pouts. I haven't found a lip balm that matches its quality and it's a night time staple because I love waking up to smooth, moisturised lips. It has a slight lip scrub texture that melts in rather than needs to be washed off, which is why I think it's so effective. I only use this at night because I prefer to have a matte surface to work from when applying my makeup after my morning routine.
My Avène Eau Thermale Spring Water Facial Spray comes in handy all the time. Not only is it part of my morning and often my evening skincare routines, but it's also a great hydration and moisture boost during the day. I can stress enough how amazing a little spritz of this is, your skin goes from tired and dull to vibrant and dewy once again. It's also very handy because its a travel size bottle, so as well as being a bedside staple I sometimes dump it in my bag before a long day of travel.

Estée Lauder are one of the more high end brands that I indulge myself on from time to time. I'm yet to try their Advanced Night Facial Repair Serum, but I suspect it'll be amazing judging by their Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum that I've been using for a while now. In the UK this serum goes for around £46, so it's pretty pricey for a small tube. I never use it everyday, I like to use it specifically when my eyes are puffy, dull, sore or red. Again, night time treatments are so effective for long-lasting repair and exposure. I recommend this be applied after a hydrating toner before your other serums and moisturises to get best results.

Origins have a huge selection of masks and by now I think I've made my way through all of them. Even though their Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask is a nighttime staple, I have to say it hasn't made a hugely significant difference to my skin, or at least it hasn't lived up to its famous reputation. I use this 2-3 times a week for a light detox and repair before cleansing off and continuing with my evening routine. I find this mask doesn't hold the key to ultimate skin bliss, but has become part of an effective formula that works for me to keep my skin as blemish free and as vibrant as possible.

What are your bedside table staples? Have you tried any of mine?

Thoughts of the day | The Kylie Jenner Lip

Most recently I've been dwelling on the hotly debated topic of Kylie Jenner's lips (soon to be their own empire). You may have seen - who am I kidding - you've definitely seen the multitude of youtube videos, blog posts, Instagram posts and tutorials all on 'how to get' Kylie Jenner's famously and scandalously, newly plumped lips. Of all the trends that crop up from time to time as the latest fad, this has got to be the weirdest/least important yet most hyped trend of them all. Seeing that her lips are hardly the biggest or plumpest in Hollywood, it must be her drastic transformation thats got everybody swooning. What do you think it is?

The Skincare Dairies: Cleansing Gels

Familiar with cleansing gels? Since becoming obsessed with cleansing balms and loving using them, I saw no need for other types of cleansers other then my Body Shop Camomile Cleansing oil and Philosophy Purity, a cross between a cream cleanser and a light foaming cleanser (sorry Caroline, but its too good to give up). However, I've been trying out two new cleansing gels and I'm pleased to say that I have successfully been converted!

For those who haven't tried them, cleansing gels are basically a jelly-like substance with a melting formula that transforms into a nourishing oil, perfect for makeup removal and a thorough clean. But, it doesn't end there. Add a splash of water and usually you'll get a light milk that completes the nourishing delight. A recent skincare revelation I've been trying is Caroline Hirons' method of not wasting decent, often expensive, cleansers such as these on simple makeup removal. The bottle or box may say that its 'great for makeup removal', but 9 times out of 10 it'll work even better for a single morning cleanse or after you've removed your makeup during your evening cleanse. Mind blown. Simply using a cleansing oil or micellar water for makeup removal has changed my skin entirely.
I began my cleansing gel journey with a Caroline Hirons recommendation, the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting cleanser.  This is such an interesting product as it's so much like jelly (yes, it actually wobbles) yet when gently massaged onto the skin, it becomes a lovely oil. It has no scent at all and a little goes a long way. This perfectly complements an exfoliating cleanser or cleansing brush as I find it replenishes the newly exfoliated skin in such a gentle way.

The verdict: This cleanser is utterly brilliant; it'll nock the socks off any of my cleansing balms for sure. I love how its so smooth and easily glides on my face as I use it, I just love it!

When exploring cleansing gels, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try Oskia's infamous Renaissance cleansing gel; a gel that melts upon immediate contact with warm skin and will not disappoint. The difference between this and Ole Henriksen's melting jelly, is that it's a lot lighter and as you can see from the picture doesn't last long before it begins to melt into an oily cream. For best results, massage onto dry skin morning and night. This cleanser has it all, Vitamin A, C and E, Startflower oil and MSM a 'bio-available form of sulphur' that helps soothe the skin. One way or another when using this cleansing gel you will see a noticeable difference to your skin.
The verdict: An award worthy cleansing gel like no other; the ever reliable Oskia have created a marvellous skin transforming product once again. The nourishment and hydration it offers the skin makes this gel a key part of my skincare routine.

My venture into cleansing gels has thus far been very successful. I love the process of using them on my skin and there's definitely an unmistakable advantage to them; my skin is smoother, more polished and loves the effects. If you're currently using a foaming cleanser for your morning cleanse or second evening cleanse, I highly recommend switching to a gel cleanser, you won't regret it. I hope you've enjoyed the first instalment of my skincare diaries, just a little series of posts about my thoughts and experiences through skincare.

Ever tried a gel cleanser? What's your favourite?

Bedside Table Staples: Elle Collections Spring/Summer 2015

For me, bedside table books tend to consist of magazines and light reading; I do the bulk of my reading during the day or on my iPad. This months bedside table feature is the last of three Elle Collections Spring/Summer 2015, the Binx Edition. The set included Cara Delevingne, Kendall Jenner and of course Binx Walton; each model had their own collections book by Elle magazine which consisted of the latest fashion news and trends of the season. Unfortunately I missed out on the first two editions, but I managed to get the last one!

Boots Skincare Haul

I don't know how many times I've mentioned it but Boots is my main supplier of drug store makeup and skincare products (and funnily enough, a graveyard for my credit cards too); but in some cases Boots also have a few high end skincare brands to chose from. I have a local Boots that isn't the biggest, so it doesn't have the widest variety of products that they would normally supply in bigger stores, but that's nothing an online spree at Space NK or Cult Beauty won't fix! I recently stopped by to pick up a few essentials, and of course stumbled across some others that I've been wanting to try for a while now.

Monthly Mustreads No. 2

First of all, Happy Easter everyone!
For this months mustreads I decided to combine last months book #GIRLBOSS with Aprils selections Pretty Honest and How to be Parisian. These three books pretty much blew up the blogosphere when they came out and I can gladly say that I can see why. I'm off to good start this year with 5 books already finished, so at least one of my new years resolutions is being fulfilled (if you'd like to know the rest, check out this post). In general, I've found reading these books so much fun, they're enjoyable, honest and actually really helpful. This non-fiction bundle has really made a difference to my life!

TESTING: Body Care ft. Soap & Glory + more

Since christmas and my birthday came around, I've been inundated with body care products that I'm still making my way through now. This month I've been trying out a few new ones and some classics too. When it comes to body care products I tend to go for very fruity, fragrant smells because I love that lingering fruity smell on my skin that lasts all day. If ever you visit Lush, or The Body Shop, you'll get what I mean when I say that those stores smell like heaven; I go to my local Body Shop all the time, but I feel I need to pay Lush another visit soon!
